We all remember playing with silly putty, it’s a staple of childhood. The thing about the silly putty you buy in stores is you get such a small amount for the price you’re paying. Follow the recipe below for how to make homemade silly putty, and you’ll get a large quantity that will last forever !
1 bottle of white liquid glue (any brand)
1 tsp. Borax
1/4 cup of water (room temperature)
2 plastic containers
2 plastic spoons
1 gallon sized ziplock
In one of the plastic containers, empty the bottle of glue. Next, fill the empty glue bottle with tap water. Put the lid back onto the glue bottle, and shake it back and forth until the glue comes off the sides of the bottle. Pour it into the bowl with the glue, and stir it gently with one of the plastic spoons.
If you want to add glitter, good coloring, or essential oils, add it now.
In the other plastic container add 1/2 a cup of (room temperature) water into it. Next, add the Borax into the water and stir gently with the other (clean, unused) plastic spoon. Make sure there’s no clumps of Borax, use a wire whisk if needed to get rid of all clumps. If you can’t get rid of all the clumps, let it set for a couple minutes and stir again.
Finally, take the Borax mixture, and slowly add it into the other plastic container with the glue mixture. As you do this, stir continually with one of the plastic spoons until the mixture starts to harden.
Use your hands to continue mixing, and incorporating the mixture as it hardens. Once the consistency stops changing, your done.
